Company Profile of Medientage München GmbH
The intention of Medientage München GmbH is to create platforms for the inter-media dialogue, to vitalise the much-lauded convergence of media and technologies, to establish networks and business contacts, and to set off and support media-related projects. The company’s largest event is MEDIENTAGE MÜNCHEN, which has evolved into one of Europe’s leading media expert conventions over the past few years. Furthermore, Medientage München GmbH develops and initiates several forums and evening events, some of which in co-operation with diverse partners, e.g. 'Nacht der Medien', MEDIENTAGE MÜNCHEN’s traditional get together, 'Munich Gaming', 'Audiovsiual Media Days (AVMD)' or further one-day events.
Realising and establishing top-level events requires consolidated knowledge, a keen sense of trends, routine and experience in organising and in co-operating with a broad range of business partners as well as VIPs. This, in turn, presupposes close contacts to all domains of the media sector, to administration, science, education, and cultural institutions. Thanks to its perennial activities as a host of renowned media expert events, Medientage München GmbH has obtained its position at the decisive interfaces of the media industry.
The History of Medientage München GmbH
Medientage München GmbH was founded in 1995 under the name of ‘DVB Multimedia Bayern GmbH’ as a joint project of the Free State of Bavaria, the Bavarian Regulatory Authority for Commercial Broadcasting (‘Bayerische Landeszentrale für neue Medien’, BLM), Münchner Gesellschaft für Kabelkommunikation (MGK), Mittelfränkische Medienbetriebsgesellschaft mbH, the Cities of Munich and Nuremberg, the Bavarian State Institution for Construction Financing (‘Bayerische Landesanstalt für Aufbaufinanzierung’, LfA), the Chamber of Industry and Commerce for Munich and Upper Bavaria (‘Industrie- und Handelskammer für München und Oberbayern’), and the Chamber of Industry and Commerce Nuremberg (‘Industrie- und Handelskammer Nürnberg’).
The original object of DVB Multimedia Bayern GmbH was to develop, implement, and run local and regional DVB services. Thus, DVB Multimedia Bayern GmbH was assigned the Bavarian DVB pilot project (‘DVB Pilotprojekt Bayern’) until 1998. Since 1996, Mr Reiner Müller, who is at the same time head of the technical department of BLM, has been one of the company’s CEOs. The company general meeting is headed by Siegfried Schneider, president of BLM.
Being commuted into a wholly owned subsidiary of BLM, the company’s structure changed fundamentally in 1998. This reorganisation had become necessary, since the DVB pilot project ended that year and hence new tasks and duties had to be defined. Since 1999, the company’s activities concentrate on developing and organising conferences and events in the media and communications sector.
In the same year, Mr Johannes Kors, head of the press and media industry department of BLM, was appointed second CEO of DVB Multimedia Bayern GmbH. With its established corporate structures being retained unchanged, DVB Multimedia Bayern GmbH was renamed ‘Medientage München GmbH’ in March 2007. In November 2010, Mr Christopher Tusch was appointed third CEO of Medientage München. He had been authorised officer of the company since 1996. Today, Medientage München GmbH has eight employees beside the CEOs and several freelancers.
